【英語初級レッスン No.13】名詞の複数形（Plural Nouns）

こんにちは！今日のテーマは 名詞の複数形。
レッスンを読み終える頃には、たくさんの物や人を正しく英語で言えるようになります！

1. 文法の説明（基本）

英語では、名詞が1つのときは単数、2つ以上のときは複数を使います。
基本は 語尾に -s をつけるだけ。

  • dog → dogs（犬 → 犬たち）
  • book → books（本 → 本たち）
  • car → cars（車 → 車たち）

👉 ただし、語尾によって変化の仕方が少し違います。

2. 使い方とルール

■ 基本：-s をつける

pen → pens, student → students

■ 語尾が特定の文字のとき

  • -s, -sh, -ch, -x, -z：-es をつける
    例）bus → buses, watch → watches, box → boxes
  • 子音字 + y：y → i + es
    例）baby → babies, city → cities
  • 母音 + y：そのまま -s
    例）toy → toys, day → days

■ 不規則変化（要暗記）

  • man → men（男 → 男たち）
  • woman → women（女 → 女たち）
  • child → children（子ども → 子どもたち）
  • foot → feet（足 → 足たち）
  • tooth → teeth（歯 → 歯たち）
  • mouse → mice（ネズミ → ネズミたち）

■ 形が変わらないもの

  • sheep → sheep（羊 → 羊）
  • fish → fish（魚 → 魚）
  • deer → deer（鹿 → 鹿）

※ fish は種を区別するときに fishes を使うこともあります（初級では fish でOK）。

3. 例文で確認（日本語訳つき）

  • I have three books on my desk.（机の上に本が3冊あります）
  • She bought two dresses yesterday.（彼女は昨日ドレスを2着買いました）
  • There are many buses in the city.（その街にはたくさんのバスがあります）
  • My children love pizza.（私の子どもたちはピザが大好きです）
  • We saw five sheep in the field.（私たちは野原で5匹の羊を見ました）

4. 会話で練習

A: How many apples do you want?
（リンゴをいくつ欲しいですか？）

B: I want two apples, please.
（2つください）

A: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
（兄弟はいますか？）

B: Yes, I have two brothers and one sister.
（はい、兄が2人と妹が1人います）

5. よく使う例文まとめ

  • I have two pens.（ペンが2本あります）
  • We saw many birds.（私たちはたくさんの鳥を見ました）
  • My teeth are white.（私の歯は白いです）

🔁 B. 文を複数形に書き換えてください（動詞も正しく）

  1. This bus is crowded.
  2. A child has a new book.
  3. There is a box under the table.
  4. The city is beautiful.

  1. There (is / are) many mice in the barn.
  2. My teeth (is / are) sensitive.
  3. Two women (was / were) waiting.

  1. She have two childs.
  2. Those citys is big.
  3. There are a box on the desk.

以下の語を使って各1文ずつ、数詞＋名詞の複数形で文を作ってください。
語：apple / bus / country / tooth / city

  5. sheep, fish, deer（そのまま）

B. 文の書き換え

  1. These buses are crowded.
  2. Children have new books.
  3. There are boxes under the table.
  4. The cities are beautiful.

C. 選択

  1. are

D. 誤り直し

  1. She has two children.
  2. Those cities are big.
  3. There is a box on the desk. ／ There are boxes on the desk.

  • I have two teeth that hurt.
  • We will travel to three cities this summer.
