【英語初級レッスン No.16】冠詞（a / an / the）

こんにちは！今回は英語の 冠詞（a / an / the） を学びます。
レッスン後には、観光や仕事でも役立つ自然な説明ができるようになります！

1. 冠詞とは？（文法の説明）

冠詞は 名詞の前につけて意味をはっきりさせることばです。英語ではとても頻繁に使います。

  • a：1つの（子音の音で始まる語の前）
    例）a car, a book
  • an：1つの（母音の音で始まる語の前）
    例）an actress, an umbrella
  • the：その（話し手・聞き手に特定できるもの）
    例）the window, the station

🔊 a / an は「綴り」ではなく『音』で決まる

  • an hour（h を発音しない → 母音の音）
  • a university（/juː/ は子音の音 y で始まる）
  • an MBA（エム…母音の音で始まる） / a European city

2. 使い方（a / an と the）

■ a / an（初出・非特定）

  • I saw a car.（1台の車を見ました）
  • She is an actress.（彼女は女優です）

👉 初めて登場する「どれでもよい1つ」を表すとき。

■ the（特定）

  • Open the window.（その窓を開けて）
  • I went to the station.（その駅に行きました）

👉 すでに話題に出たもの、または共通認識になっているもの。

■ ゼロ冠詞（無冠詞 ∅）の基本

  • I like music.（音楽が好き：不可算名詞は一般論なら ∅）
  • Dogs are friendly.（犬は友好的だ：複数名詞の一般論は ∅）
  • go to school / work / bed（機能・目的で使うときは多くが ∅）

3. 便利ルール早見表

状況 冠詞 例
初めて出す情報 a / an I bought a guitar.（ギターを1本買った）
2回目以降／共有理解 the The guitar is expensive.（そのギターは高い）
固有名詞（国・人名など） 通常 ∅ Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Tom
例外で the をつける固有名詞 the the United States, the U.K., the Philippines, the Eiffel Tower
楽器（一般） the play the guitar/piano

  • I saw a park in Kyoto.（京都である公園を見ました）
  • The park was very beautiful.（その公園はとても美しかった）

仕事シーン

  • I had a meeting with my boss.（上司と1件の会議がありました）
  • The meeting was long.（その会議は長かった）

趣味シーン

  • I bought a guitar yesterday.（昨日ギターを1本買いました）
  • I like playing the guitar.（ギターを弾くのが好きです）

A: Did you see a movie last night?
（昨夜映画を見ましたか？）

B: Yes, I saw a movie with my friend.
（はい、友達と1本映画を見ました）

A: How was the movie?
（その映画はどうでしたか？）

B: The movie was great!
（その映画は最高でした！）

📌 D. ゼロ冠詞（∅）か the か？（一般論か特定かを考えて選ぶ）

  1. ____ dogs are friendly.（犬は友好的だ＝一般）
  2. I fed ____ dogs in our garden.（うちの庭の犬＝特定）
  3. She goes to ____ school by bus.（通学という機能）
  4. The parents are waiting in front of ____ school.（その学校という建物を特定）

✍️ E. ミニライティング（各1〜2文）

  1. 観光：初めて訪れた場所を a/an → 次の文で the にする。
  2. 仕事：a/an meeting → the meeting で2文。
  3. 一般論：∅ coffee / ∅ music を使って好き嫌いを1文ずつ。
